| This stage will be targeted at restoring normal function, safely and quickly. Depending what was found in the assessment stage, appropriate treatment will start. Most injuries involve soft tissue damage (fascia, muscles, tendons, ligaments). Many of these types of injuries respond to a combination of treatments and here in the injury clinic these can be provided.
Treatments such as sports massage, advanced soft tissue techniques, ultrasound, ice therapy, strapping / support and active recovery tecchniques can be used. Treatment has 2 components, treating the presenting complaint and trying to identify the cause. It is important to understand that no single form of treatment will correct all parts of the injury.
One of the main treatments involves sports massage. This term covers a wide range of techniques in dealing with soft tissue injuries / problems. Sports massage can increase tissue circulation and stimulate the lymphatic drainage system, treat adhesions and fibrous tissue, increase tissue flexibility and effect nerves. More advanced techniques such as soft tissue release, can have good results on those 'hard to get rid' of problems.
It is not many times that one stand alone treatment will enable full recovery. Several treatments over a period of weeks / months may be needed. For treatments that are not effective, the inital diagnosis / impression needs to be revalued and alternative treatment given or refer to other agencies. | ||||||
