Well, it all depends on the nature of the injury / problem and the stage the process is in. For example, a tight Iliotibial band for a runner may only need 1 visit, but generally 3-4 should be enough to improve the injury / problem. Problems such as plantar fasciitis (pain in sole foot), achilles tendinopathy or tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), could mean multiple treatments over a period of time. Even then, these problems can continue, though often advice on self-management after initial treatment can do help. Maitenance appointments for sports massage using advanced techniques, can often keep an injury / problem from reoccrring, works very well for some clients and often 1 -2 monthly appointments are needed. Though for those in heavy sports training (marathon training), every 2 weeks may be needed. Generally the role of self-management once a correct diagnosis / impression is made and after some initial treatment is very much under valued and though I may be 'shooting myself in the foot', a lot of people pay for weekly treatments for months and months and still have little improvement. |
